Our History

Founded in 1999, by long-time activist, author, and journalist, Phil Blazer, the Jewish Life Foundation promotes education and understanding among cultures worldwide by utilizing all facets of the media to provide community outreach programs, educational programs, and cultural events which embrace, celebrate and share Jewish values and traditions.

Since its inception, Jewish Life Foundation has served over hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States with our unique and diverse programs.

Since 2003, we have provided free tennis lessons to hundreds of urban and Jewish youth annually through our Tennis LA program. Tennis LA is modeled on the self-esteem and talent development program offered by the Israel Tennis Centers in Israel.  In addition to teaching the basics of tennis, Tennis LA encourages positive attitudes and team spirit, strengthening not only the children’s minds but their bodies as well. It is our hope to eventually expand Tennis LA to other cities throughout America.

Since 1998, we have engaged more than 500,000 baseball fans within the Southern California Jewish Community with our annual Jewish Community Day Pre-Game Ceremonies for the Los Angeles Dodgers in conjunction with Blazer Media Group. Other regular programs include California Loves Israel, a touring group which has brought thousands of individuals to Israel; the International Jewish Film Festival; special entertainment events such as a tribute concert honoring Israel’s 60th birthday, and family programs such as Jewish Community Day - Noah’s Ark at the Los Angeles Zoo, an innovative and fun family program which introduces animals of the Bible to children of all ages. Working with Blazer Media Group, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles and the Jerusalem Zoo, more than 50,000 people have been entertained by this unique family adventure.

The foundation has also published historical books and documentary projects such as Pioneers of Israel and History of Jewish Los Angeles.

This past summer we premiered the broadcast of the 18th Maccabiah Games on Jewish Life Television (JLTV), a 24-hour network currently broadcast in 26 million homes in the United States. This airing marked the first time this second largest international sporting event was broadcast to audiences outside of Israel.

Most recently, the foundation has created numerous programs under the School Judaica umbrella. Designed to reach under-served populations such as unaffiliated or low-income Jewish families, and provide a forum for Jewish cultural, issues, themes and traditions, School Judaica presents informative, thought-provoking, and educational programs.

We are currently developing two exciting education programs, including Bubbe’s Closet, a Judaica education program geared for children ages 5-8 featuring premier music educators and performers, and The Miracle Project, a program which will teach parents, Jewish educators and clergy to how to work with children with autism and prepare them for the experience of becoming a bar/bat mitvah. Inspired by the work of Elaine Hall, a professional acting coach, in conjuction with Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services in Los Angeles, the program will be an informative, hands-on approach to learning that will enable the audience to tailor the lessons to the learning style and abilities of individual children. These programs will air on JLTV and also be packaged as DVD sets available for use in the home and in schools helping to teach tolerance, acceptance, and understanding.

Upcoming cultural programs include In the Moment with Rabbi Stephen Robbins and Cantor Eva Robbins, which will explore relevant issues regarding lifestyle, relationships, communication, healthcare, science, etc., and relate them to our ancient teachings and values.

Each year, on Yom HaShoah the Jewish Life Foundation presents 24-hours of Holocaust programming on JLTV. This includes documentaries, films, and survivor interviews and testimonies.
