Phil Blazer has been in the forefront of “positive activism” for more than forty years. He has a comprehensive knowledge of the State of Israel and Jewish communities around the world. He has been a consultant for both private enterprise and federal and international governments on numerous issues affecting Israel and World Jewry and has traveled to Israel over 40 times.
“You know Israel better than any American I have ever met. You are truly a leader of our people. They are rare, ” stated former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.
Blazer has been credited with literally changing the course of history through his leadership in such diverse projects as confronting neo-Nazi bigotry in Skokie, IL; championing California’s Holocaust Education Bill; initiating Jewish and non-Jewish dialogue in Berlin, and influencing White House policy with his “Black Tie Protest” dinners. He attended the historic 1979 White House Peace Signing Ceremony between, Begin, Sadat, and Carter. Additionally, Blazer has hosted Hollywood celebrities on important trips to Israel, including Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ben Kingsley, and others. One of the most significant points in his career was his involvement in the rescue of nearly 1,000 Ethiopian Jews from refugee camps in the Sudan to freedom in Israel. Code-named Operation Joshua, the rescue was performed by the U.S. Government, with Blazer as a key catalyst.
Blazer is the editor and publisher of the National Jewish News, which he founded in 1973. His radio program, Jewish Soul, began broadcasting in 1965 and continues to be heard weekly around the world and on the internet.
Blazer’s award-winning weekly television program, Jewish Life, was established in 1977, and has featured interviews with prominent figures from all walks of life including Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Weisel, Yitzak Rabin, Elizabeth Taylor, and Sandy Koufax. Most recently his program, renamed, To The Point, has expanded from major markets to national and international markets with its launch on JLTV, America’s, and the world’s, first full-time, 24/7 Jewish television channel.
